Montana Green Building Program of Missoula PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 27 August 2008 07:15

The Montana Green Building Program’s objective is to give builders, trade contractors, policymakers and consumers a model to follow to significantly reduce the environmental footprint created by new home construction.

MBIA Vice-President John Freer, owner of Riverworks, Inc., was integral in launching the Missoula Green Building Initiative in 2007. The program was developed to encourage the construction of green homes in and around Missoula. With the expertise and hard work of many local architects, builders and other building industry leaders, guidelines from around the country were adapted to apply to the Missoula area.

Since its inception, the program has attracted hundreds participants, from builders and architects to tradesmen to consumers. Many are learning that green homes can offer a wide range of benefits, from energy efficiency to improved indoor air quality to lower operating costs.

In 2009, MBIA and John Freer earned national honors from NAHB.  MBIA took home top honors for its Green Building program.  Freer won advocate of the year.
