Lead-Based Paint Standards, Rules and Websites
Beginning in April, 2010 federal law will require that contractors who perform renovation, repair and painting projects that disturb lead-based paint in homes, child care facilities, and schools built before 1978 be certified and follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination. Federal law also requires that individuals receive certain information before renovating six square feet or more of painted surfaces in a room for interior projects or more than twenty square feet of painted surfaces for exterior projects in housing, child care facilities and schools. Any contractor working with lead-based paint projects needs to be trained and certified under the Lead Paint: Renovation Repair and Painting Rule (LRRP).
The following web sites contain information for builders and homeowners on the Lead -Based Paint Standards.
